Oura just announced the Ring 5 today — and if you own a Ring 4 or have been considering one for sleep and anxiety tracking, here’s everything that matters.
💍 What’s New in the Oura Ring 5
The headline change is size: the Ring 5 is 40% smaller than the Ring 4, making it the world’s smallest smart ring. Oura says the sensors have been redesigned to maintain the same tracking accuracy in a dramatically slimmer profile. Battery life is also improved despite the size reduction — a significant engineering feat given how much smaller the ring is.
New software features launching alongside the Ring 5 include:
- Blood pressure signals — optical blood pressure monitoring, a first for Oura
- Live activity tracking — real-time pace and distance during runs, cycling, and strength workouts from your phone
- On-demand care — in-app access to health professionals
- Menopause insights — new hormonal tracking features for women
- Hormonal birth control tracking
Importantly, all of these software features will also roll out to Oura Ring Gen 3 and Ring 4 — so existing users benefit from the update even without upgrading hardware.
💰 Price and Availability
The Oura Ring 5 is available to pre-order today and begins shipping June 4, 2026. Pricing:
- Base finishes (Silver, Black): $399 / £399
- Premium finishes (Gold, Stealth, Brushed Silver, Deep Rose): $499 / £499
That’s a $50 increase over the Ring 4’s $349 starting price. The monthly subscription ($5.99/month or ~$70/year) remains unchanged and is still required for full feature access including HRV, Stress, Resilience, and the new blood pressure signals.
😟 Why This Matters for Anxiety and Sleep
We recently rated the Oura Ring 4 4.8/5 in our device review series — the highest-rated tracker in our lineup — for its best-in-class HRV measurement, 96% sleep stage accuracy, and Stress and Resilience scoring. The Ring 5 doesn’t change the core value proposition for anxiety tracking: it still measures the same physiological signals (HRV, resting heart rate, skin temperature, sleep stages) that make it the most useful consumer tool for monitoring how anxiety is affecting your body.
What changes is wearability. The 40% size reduction means the ring is far less noticeable — which matters for continuous wear compliance. A tracker you actually keep on 24/7 gives better data than a more capable tracker you leave on the nightstand. For people who found the Ring 4 too bulky, the Ring 5 is a meaningful improvement.
The blood pressure signals are also notable from an anxiety perspective — blood pressure is one of the most direct physiological markers of chronic stress and autonomic nervous system dysregulation, and having that data continuously rather than only at a doctor’s office could be genuinely useful for people managing anxiety.
🔄 Should Ring 4 Owners Upgrade?
Probably not immediately. Since all the new software features (blood pressure signals, live activity, menopause insights) will roll out to Ring 3 and Ring 4, existing users get meaningful new capabilities without spending $399. The hardware improvements — smaller size and longer battery — are real, but unlikely to change health outcomes for most people. If you don’t have an Oura Ring yet, the Ring 5 is the obvious choice. If you’re a Ring 4 owner who is happy with the fit and size, waiting makes more sense.
